Who We Are

Gorilla Cycling Club is based in Kings Heath, Birmingham. From 2016 to October 2024 we were called Gorilla Coffee Cafe CC and were part of The Gorilla Coffee Cafe. After the unfortunate closing of the cafe, the club changed name but we continue to ride bikes, socialise and play an active in role in our community.

We foster a welcoming, friendly and inclusive club culture that creates an environment where everybody regardless of fitness, ambition or experience can enjoy the pleasure of riding a bike. We regularly ride on Thursdays and Sundays and, ad-hoc Saturdays. These are predominately road rides, however there are reasonably regular local off-road rides, and less regular trips to trail centers. We also organise additional monthly events that range from hill climbs, TTs and long distance reliability trials, through to social events such as quizzes, darts and the annual Gorilla awards.

Aims/values and Constitution

Constitution

To promote and support participation in cycling in Kings Heath and the general South Birmingham area.

  • To provide all its services in a way that is fair to everyone and encourages inclusion and engagement at all levels.

  • To promote and support fundraising for local charitable organisations.

  • To promote the club within the local community and engage with relevant community activities.

Club Kit

The clubs colours are red, white and black, complemented with the much loved polka dots. There have been many variations of the jersey over the years and as part of the club’s relaunch, plan to have a new jersey ready for summer 2025. Keep an eye out for announcements through the; website, Facebook, Instagram and Whats App community.

We feel that wearing the colours does help to promote a sense of unity and togetherness, however, there is no expectation for any member to buy and wear kit. It really is up to you.

Charitable Works

The club annually supports a named charity by raising money in a number of ways such as our annual Inter-Club Charity ride and other fund raising social events.

For 2025 we are supporting St. Vincent de Paul Society. SVP is an Anti-poverty charity that helps those who struggle with the cost of every day essentials. They help people directly, assisting with food, bills, white goods and school uniforms to name but a few. They are affiliated to St Dunstan and St Jude churches, with help offered irrespective of religious beliefs.

Previous chosen charities

Although not a charity, the club is also closely associated with More Than a Cyclist, a cycling safety campaign that was started by and is run by several club members.
